Round we go again...
Second rehearsal time - Arrived a little late for Iceland, so only saw a couple of runthroughs. She's still looking good and confident, but possibly due to my now jaded eye she was maybe not as strong as on Monday? Not sure whether it's me or her.

Alf Poier, on the other hand, is getting into his stride. He's singing like a dream (specifically the sort of dream you have if you eat a quatro formaggi pizza just before bedtime), he's slightly toned down his stage act but without lossing the essence of it (no more crotch holding), and the thing's starting to get some momentum.

Mickey Joe - still not great from what I saw, although he's looking a bit more confident. In fairness, I only saw two runthroughs and with one he was clearly having technical problems with his earpiece - it might well have improved subsequently.

I left early because I needed to see Alf Poier's press conference. The man is a miracle of modern science, honestly. He concluded by leading us all outside for a "demonstration of energy", which consisted of running over a row of seven eggs without breaking any of them.

"Oh. It didn't work."

Vote for Alf. For me!

I'll miss Sertab's second rehearsal, unfortunately, but I needed that press conference!

Sounds great! :-) Somehow I just knew Alf would be the star of the show...

Really looking forward to arriving tomorrow... I take it you're staying in the Centra already, anything in particular I should know about it or is it Just Another Hotel? Oh, and did you get asked for those pesky health insurance forms at the airport or not?

Keep it up with the reports, I've been chuckling away here all week... literally... it's been a real struggle to catch my breath.

Yep, I'm at the Centra since Sunday. I have a photograph of the bathroom, but you *really* don't want to see it. :-) Didn't get asked for any health insurance forms *anywhere* - doesn't mean you won't be though, and it may make a difference arriving from Denmark as against Prague.

I was starting to wonder why you were so quiet, but I guess if you've been ROFLing it makes it hard to type. :-)

Oh, suggest you try to have something with you on arrival to show the taxi driver where the Centra is - I fear that Riga cabbies don't need to pass "The Knowledge", though "The Ignorance" is a possibility.

What time do you arrive tomorrow, again?

OK, thanks for that :-)

I arrive tomorrow afternoon, around 2:30pm. I don't know if there are any Grand Plans for tomorrow night yet, but I was just going to check in, freshen up, then take a wander around the old town for a while to get my bearings. Might bump into you and Fils when you return from the rehearsals, I suppose, unless you're intending on going partying straight from Skonto!

Not sure what the plans are for tomorrow yet. I think rehearsals are due to finish at about 19:00... yep, they are. Not sure what parties we have tomorrow though.

Fair enough. Paths Will Cross either way, I'm sure. At breakfast on Friday at the latest! ;-)

Have fun... regards to Fils, Roy, Franko, Luke, and all the other millions of devoted rehearsal-goers I'm sure I've forgotten...

Don't seem to be able to update with this as a new entry just now - try it as a comment.

Turkey, Malta, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal and Croatia

I'm reliably informed by [info]oneurope that Turkey's rehearsal was magnificent. I'm prepared to trust his judgement, as we haven't really had any major disagreements so far.

Malta continues to be nice. Nothing to obviously get excited about, she looks kind of mumsy, but it definitely has a charm to it.

Bosnia looked like another to have a few tech problems - a few attempted runthroughs were aborted. I can't remember what their stage costumes are to be, but they just seem to get lost on the dark stage in what they were wearing today. I was usually waiting for them to finish by the second key-change - it's not doing it for me.

Portugal is really, really continuing to impress though. My feeling is that if it were in the last part of the draw, it would have possibilities to come through and steal the whole shebang, but starting from 7th and with the language mix... top 10 now would be no surprise whatsoever.

Finally, Croatia. Not a lot to add from Monday - they were in different outfits today, there was some shiny pink legwear among the backing singers and a curious, skimpy but substantial looking thing for Croatia. That makes no sense at all, does it... hope my photos come out!

I tried my first press scrum for a Turkish CD today. Seemed easy enough, I sneaked round the side, held my hand out, got a CD put in it and went away again. I gather there was at least one bloodied nose in the same scrum, but I've checked my elbows and they're clean! :-)

Enough of this. I need a drink. Can't do this thing without recourse to the drink.

*wanders over to fridge full of free fruit juice cartons*

I want to live here forever and ever! :-P
